abb interview video: matthew waldman

the power of twitter: a few months ago i was monitoring "nooka" chatter on twitter and came across a thread from jabari johnson his wearing my designs, and i contacted him and got to know more about his incredible DC based network. andre is part of that network and he was kind enough to make an effort to come to nyc to interview me for his video magazine series.

the interview was conducted at our pop up show at den on 330 east 11th street 2 weeks ago. i was given the chance to showcase our new line of belts (the strip) and wallets (AO) as well as our fragrance. it's difficult for me to watch as i HATE the sound of my own voice, but doesn't everyone hate the sound of their own voice recorded? that said, i hope you enjoy it. remember, the pop up shop is open until august 16th, so check it out while you can! the frank nan designed interior is really impressive.

the video itself is enough of a plug for andre's skills, but seriously, check out his vimeo page [link below] and hire him for your videography needs, especially if you're in the DC area.

spongebob nookapants

everyones favorite sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea is coming to a wrist near you. spongebob squarepants is currently nickelodeon's highest rated television show and 2009 marks its 10th anniversary. we are extremely excited to be a part of history. what better way to mark spongebob's impact on popular culture then being forever immortalized on a nooka watch. we have designed two limited-edition timepieces referencing the palette of bikini bottom on the ZUB ZENH and the aluminum ZENV. these are designs i can imaging on sandy cheeks, spongebob and even patrick! hey, i know marc jacobs is a big fan of the sponge, maybe he'll be buying some of these as well.

spongelevator is the ZUB retail at $175 and the spongenvader $275. they are actually available now, exclusively at comic con in san diego. link here! and will be in stores for fall, but you can make sure you pre-order yours as these are sure to fry… I mean fly off shelves.

kogane-cho redevelopment

yesterday was a BUSY day. i worked the booth at rooms all day, and then we were off to yokohama for an event related to the trienalle:

the opening of the kogane-cho redevelopment dedication. koganecho is an area long plagued with crime and prostitution and the city of yokohama has put up the money to make the area into artist studios, gallery spaces and fashion shops. the new buildings fit snugly under the train tracks of the keikyu line. nooka zub 38s are available in the GOLD shop [kogane = gold] next to one of the cute cafés scattered through the area.

i really enjoyed the paper fruits project by a thai artist wit pimkanchanapong. you buy the flat sheet and if you cut it out and make it into the 3-D fruit, he will exchange it for a real fruit and then resell the paper one as a souvenir at a higher price than the flat one. it's really a brilliant way to mix community, recycling and real commerce concepts into one experience. his site here.

also, the installation by naro tamiya in the issey miyake shop is wonderful! lots of information on everything is here.

i then met fellow designers and friends from osaka at an impossibly small bar in shibuya, but i'll make a separate entry for that.

also pictured in this entry is the nooka limited edition for the yokohama trienalle which will be available at the art fair itself as well as spiral yokohama and online store [also on the nooka.jp site and online store]. it has a beautiful dark gold face and green body. limited edition of 500 exclusive to japan!
